Osman has presented alongside Alexander Armstrong ever since the series started in 2009. He also created the show.
Following his departure, numerous guest hosts are taking over his role for the foreseeable future, with Sally Lindsay becoming the first.
“She’s my new pointless friend, my first in 12 years, the wonderful Sally Lindsay!” presenter Armstrong said on Tuesday’s episode of the show (September 21).
“This is so exciting and so surreal!” Lindsay said. “Just wanted to ask you – do you feel like you’ve cheated a bit?”
“It feels a bit naughty but we’ll work through it,” teased Armstrong.
Lindsay is the first guest presenter to replace Osman, but she won’t be sticking around for long.
Viewers took to social media to share their opinions on Lindsay’s first episode, and many seemed excited to see her in the hot seat.
One viewer tweeted: “Watching Pointless on BBC One realized Alexander Armstrong has a new assistant not Richard Osman but actress Sally Lindsay it makes a refreshing change now Richard has left the quiz show.”
while another added: “Well done @sally_lindsay on your first ever Pointless appearance. I could tell you was nervous but you aced it x 🙂. I just know you and Xander will get on very well together. You go girl!!”
Others set to have a go in the hot seat include task master‘s Ed Gamble and The Last Leg‘s Alex Brooker, as well as BBC Radio 6 Music presenter Lauren Laverne, The Split‘s Stephen Mangan and BluePeter presenter Konnie Huq.
However, it’s not quite the end for Osman.
When the TV quizmaster announced that he was quitting the show, he explained that even though he wanted to focus on being a best-selling authorhe would still host the celebrity shows and House of Games.
